Operation
Wallacea
Our Minister for
the Environment, Redingote Pronc, is taking part in this project
in 2001. This is an opportunity to make a tangible contribution to
conservation and sustainable development in an area rich in
biodiversity, but poor in material resources. The rewards inherent in
safeguarding threatened habitats, witnessing the discovery of new
species and interacting with fascinating, endangered cultures speak for
themselves. Between project tasks there is ample scope for relaxation,
pleasure diving or wildlife observation, but those simply seeking an
adventure holiday should look elsewhere. |

Operation
Wallacea is a series of scientific wildlife survey and conservation
expeditions to a remote corner of the island of Sulawesi. It has been
running wildlife research and community development projects in SE
Sulawesi for the last 6 years. In 2000 there were nearly 300
mainly University students, together with 20 scientists, 3 professional
photographers, 2 artists, expert trackers and forest support teams,
diving staff and extensive logistics team to support the wide range of
projects completed.

WolfTown
rescues unwanted wolves and high-percentage wolf hybrids. Abandoned
and/or unwanted animals area cared for and re-socialized with our other
wolves. Animals are given health treatment as needed and hybrids are
neutered.
Participants
in this project learn about wolf society, behavior, and current
issues. Wolves teach good social behavior; they work co-operatively
in a group to hunt and care for young, demonstrate strong family bonds,
and take care of orphans and the old. |
