ALLOTMENTS

Allotments have a long and noble history in this country. They are enshrined in law. It is the right of any citizen to demand that his or her local authority provide him/her with a piece of land for cultivation, within reasonable walking distance of his/her home.

BEING CLOSED DOWN

Instead of that, allotments are being closed and threatened with closure all over the country. Those still standing are constantly vandalised and the police and local authorities do nothing to stop it.  Though the government pretends to want to encourage a healthy way of life and healthy eating, they do nothing to encourage people back onto the land.

RESPECT IN GERMANY

In Germany, the right of the individual to peaceful enjoyment of his/her allotment is respected. Allotments are not vandalised as they are here. There is respect for individuals. On some sites, small bungalows are erected with running water and electricity. These bungalows are like small holiday homes. We could have that here.

DROGON PROPOSES

To make extra land available for allotments in every town. This can be taken away from farmers and landowners who are not using their land due to setaside schemes. Give the people enjoyable leisure. We have many other plans of this nature - natural lakes, wildlife reserves, community woodlands, woodland burials - your ideas welcome.
