Subduing a Rebellious
Spirit

This is another old
Ritual, conducted in Latin, a language demons understand. It
is powerful and strong. This is to be used when you are convinced
of the existence of a demon or negative entity. Again, the forces you
are up against are strong ones, you must erect the triangle of Art and
obey all the rules about not going outside the circle during the ritual.

A lady (stranger
to us) and her husband had to go to his mother's flat in Manchester and
wind up the mother's affairs. She had had a stroke, been taken to
hospital, and though partly recovered was diagnosed unfit to live alone
and taken into a home. On sorting through the mother;s things, the wife
found what she could only describe as a voodoo doll at the bottom of the
wardrobe, hidden under piles of papers and clothing. Very shocked, she consulted a friend, who knew me, and advised her to get in
touch. Lucky she did, as the doll had a face pasted over the original
doll face - it was a face cut from a photo, a cousin of the family. The
lady's first instinct had been to burn the doll. I advised this would
not be wise, as it might bring harm to the cousin. We arranged to go
down there and do what we could.
We took with us a physical circle, drawn on a large sheet, which we
could sit inside. It was inscribed round the perimeter with the
tetragrammaton and other protective sigils. We had a paper triangle of
art which we placed in the correct alignment. Our preparations were very
thorough. We had stones and symbols of the correct nature for the four
directions.
I think now that what we did wrong (if it was wrong) was to take the
voodoo doll in to the circle with us. Probably it should have been
placed in the Triangle of Art. However the decision was taken to place
it in the centre of the circle, and to summon any demons to appear in
the triangle. On my arrival I did not want to see the doll. I felt a
fear of it. Wolf and I sat at opposite sides of the circle with the
Thing in the middle. I felt a slow tide creep out from it and towards
me, like the slow lapping of a tide on the shore. I told myself this was
imagination. We dealt with the Thing and, leaving the flat, drove
to the river Irwell and threw it in with appropriate incantation.
The interesting thing happened on our return to the host's house. They
had taken us there before visiting the flat and all had been well. They
had an old, friendly dog they adored, and we love dogs too. But
when we returned, it was a different story. The dog could not stand me,
it really went crazy and looked about to attack, though they insisted it
was not capable of doing much harm. I knew it was the spirit and that it
had left the doll and was in me.
During the night, I did battle with the spirit and banished it from me.
I awoke as it left. So all was well in the end. Magic is a learning
process. You have to be strong enough to deal with your mistakes as well
as your successes. |
