On Glenbeigh Beach

a poem for Benji

Raison d'être

In 2008 I 'moved' to Ireland - intending to stay the rest of my life, I was back in Nelson in three weeks! In the two years I had been looking for a house, the situation had changed, and I could not get the extra help I needed to afford to live in a simple two-bedroomed house similar to the one I have in Nelson. It was all for the best, the Irish on the whole do not like dogs, and Benji was very unhappy, as he is generally loved, praised and welcomed wherever he goes. One woman, though, stopped to talk to us on Glenbeigh beach . . .
